The Dwelling Place is a small Christian community of faith in Indianapolis, Indiana. The DP exists to help people resist empty ways of life by becoming fully human in the way of Jesus. We desire to be a refuge or sanctuary, a place of rest and freedom to be yourself, where we connect with God and one another by joining Jesus’ mission to bless the world.

"Oh! You can't let him be an only child! He needs brothers and sisters!" WRONG! That's not what my son tells me; yes, the only child. He says he's glad he's an only child, and I know it's not because of his HUGE inheritance because there is none. He says he loved being the center of attention and not having to fight with brothers and sisters; he says he had lots of friends for that. And he's grown up to be a wonderful son, good father of 3 and a good husband. So, don't feel guilty if you only want one child or have one child.

Once when Spence was about 3 months and quite collicky a lady from church found out that I wasn't letting him cry himself back to sleep at night because we lived in a condo. (I didn't think it would be polite to wake the neighbors at 2am.) She told me that I should pray about this, because maybe I was just listening to Satan and they couldn't really hear him at all. (I could hear them taking a shower from his room, so I knew they could hear him screaming.) I just smiled politely and didn't comment and went right on doing what I needed to do at that time.

The worst I believe I ever heard was "kids are resilient". Sure, what a lie from the pit. I think a lot of people believed this statement and caused a lot of harm to their children that is reaping consequences still to this day.
