Discussion Ideas

What are some discussions you would like to see included in future posts on this blog? What are some topics you are wrestling with in your own spiritual journey where you might like to have the input of the rest of our community? What are some "getting to know you" questions you might like to see asked as a way to draw us closer? I'd love to hear about your ideas.

How about favorite books, authors, why? Favorite movies, why? Favorite TV shows, why? Hobbies? Favorite relative (not counting kids and spouses, of course), why? Our jobs and why we like or dislike them? Some stories about how we feel the teaching at The Dwelling Place has impacted our families, friends, neighbors, strangers as we try to interact with them by what we're learning? That's all I can come up with at 12:31 a.m. And for once I am keeping my smart-mouthed comments that I so badly want to type here to myself. See, I'm learning self-control!

Okay, fellow "Dwellers", I'm starting to feel lonely here. This little box I'm typing in can be a dark place you know. How about which spiritual disciplines we struggle with the most? Which seem easiest? How we are using them in our daily lives? What we're learning from a particular discipline? If blogging is a discipline, I must be the one who finds it easiest, ya think? I don't remember it being mentioned in any of Shane's preaching or all my books on the disciplines, but most of those were wrote before cyberspace arrived.

How about some of our favorite Scripture passages and how they have affected our lives? How about our favorite story about Jesus? Our favorite book in the Bible? What passages we are struggling, have struggled with, and why? What we did once we resolved the struggle? You realize fellow "Dwellers" if someone else doesn't come up with some suggestions, all you're going to be doing is answering Laurie's questions? Don't you find that just a tad bit scary? Well, I do!

LOL! We'd post Laurie but you say everything we can think of! You're the Dweller's voice! :-D

Oh, God forbid, Lauren! You REALLY don't want that, believe me! I just thought of this one this morning while I was perusing e-bay (perhaps there's a message from God for me here). If there were one or two or three things you could change about yourself, what would they be, and how would you like to change them and why? I was going to say if there one, two, three or more things you could change about Shane what would they be, and how and why, but that might take up too much space!...just kidding, Shane! You may want to change you, but we don't, we'll let God do that, it's just too big a job for us and besides you know we love you just the way you are! :-))))))

Laurie, I *love* the names you give yourself! You make my day happier, lady. :-D

Thanks, Lauren! I needed that at 12:30 last night when I got home from St. Vincent! There's another discussion question. What do we thinks our gifts are, spiritual or otherwise? How are we using them? If we're not, why not? If I would have been a boy, I should have been named Isaac - it means laughter. I like to be serious, but frankly there are few things in life that I find worth taking too seriously. Maybe that will cause discussion!

Hey, Lauren! I've got an idea. How about if you and I just start discussing whatever we want here, since you and I seem to be the only one devoting ourselves to this particular blog and see if anyone (besides Cary) notices! We can start discussing some really off-the-wall stuff until Cary stops us. So....you're younger than I am, what off-the-wall stuff would you like to discuss???? :-)

Okay...you are both aware that you need professional help, right? Nah...on second thought, you both make me laugh too much. I don't want anyone messing that up for us. :-)

But, Blog Master, isn't your husband supposed to be our professional help? And haven't we been listening to him? Now, tell us, WHO needs professional help then? Actually, I have personally had professional help, so this is an improvement! Dang, I knew you'd catch us before we got the blog site into trouble.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I leave for a *day* and you're hauling me into some scheme! That's awesome! :-D I don't know what an off the wall topic would be. Bunnies invading Russia? lol.
Posted by sunshine2316 on 02/12/2006 05:24:00 AM

Of course, you do realize Laurie dear, that by doing this we are publically announcing our positions as the Dwelling Place's loonies? Oh well. Someone once said that the happiest person in the village is the village idiot! ;-) "Insane in the membrane!"
Posted by sunshine2316 on 02/12/2006 05:27:58 AM

But, Lauren, you must remember it was not OUR idea to create this community....people tend to follow people who are similar to them, so I think we just followed someone loonier than we are. Doesn't Jesus call us sheep? And what do sheep do best? They follow! So, we're just following the sheep herder. Notice I'm not mentioning any Shanes....I mean names. And I learned well from Adam and Eve...when in doubt, blame-shift! Let me think about those bunnies invading Russia. I know I have an opinion of some sort, but it's a pretty deep subject and requires some real intellectual attention. I think I've given Cary enough discussion ideas for a while, so maybe she won't notice us.

Oh, no, Laurie. You're so wrong. I notice all. BWAH-HA-HA (Evil laugh)
Posted by dwellingplace on 02/13/2006 04:22:25 AM

Okay, Madam Observant, what do you think about bunnies invading Russia? What would we do if they did? What would the Russians do? How does that fit into our spiritual perspective? Will this question ever end up on the blog site? I think it's very creative of Lauren to use nature and other cultures to provoke thought!

Okay, Cary, this is a REAL suggestion. You realize that as The Dwelling Place grows there will be more of us more mature folk coming. This may be a suggestion for the future. You have a section on parenting. How about a section on how to deal with aging parents or parents in general? My parents are in their 80s, and by God's grace still pretty healthy, but we do have our moments! Funny, sad, good, bad, happy, glad, insane, mad....okay, I'll stop now. But I'm serious about this.
Posted by Laurie the sometimes serious on 02/13/2006 04:22:09 PM

I say start up a blog, and I'll gladly place a link to it. I think it's a terrific idea, but I think it would be better run by someone who can relate better. Also, I'd love for one of our singles to start one aimed at that group. (Just be careful not to make it into a dating hotline...that would kind of defeat the purpose.)
Posted by dwellingplace on 02/14/2006 03:11:17 AM

I think I could head up that ministry. One great idea would be to have a "Match It" night where singles are given a topic and have to find scripture to relate to that topic. Any matching scripture choices between males and females could result in a date to Starbucks.
